Reverse osmosis is the most thorough treatment available at a single tap. Water is pushed through a semi-permeable membrane that reduces a wide range of dissolved solids, giving you noticeably better drinking and cooking water at the kitchen sink, and, if you want it, at the refrigerator and icemaker as well.
We install both conventional RO systems with an under-sink storage tank and tankless reverse-osmosis units that produce on demand and free up the cabinet space a storage tank consumes. Which one makes sense depends on your cabinet layout, how much treated water you go through, and your incoming water pressure.
RO is a point-of-use solution, not a whole-home one. If your goal is to stop scale or fix water throughout the house, a softener or whole-home filtration is the right tool, often paired with RO at the kitchen tap for drinking water.

Does reverse osmosis waste water?
Traditional RO sends some water to drain to flush the membrane. Modern and tankless systems have improved that ratio substantially. If waste is a concern, we will go over the specific efficiency of the system being proposed.
Do I still need a softener if I have RO?
Usually yes, if your water is hard. RO only treats one tap, it does nothing for the scale forming in your water heater, dishwasher, and shower valves. RO also lasts longer when it is fed softened water.
How often do RO filters need changing?
Pre-filters and post-filters are typically annual; the membrane commonly runs several years depending on feed-water quality and usage. We set the schedule for your specific system at install.
