Backflow
Certified testing. Clear answers.
A backflow prevention assembly keeps contaminated water from reversing direction and entering the potable supply, from an irrigation system, a boiler loop, a commercial process, or any other cross-connection. Because they protect the public water supply, these assemblies are required to be tested by a certified tester on a recurring basis.
MAX Plumbing holds Certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester certification. We perform the required test, complete the documentation your water purveyor needs, and handle repair or replacement when an assembly fails.
If your assembly failed a test, do not wait on it. A failed device is both a compliance problem and a genuine cross-connection risk, and repair parts are usually a fraction of the cost of a full replacement if the body is still sound.

Backflow Testing, Repair & Replacement FAQs
Straight answers to what people ask us most about this service.
How often does a backflow preventer need to be tested?
Requirements depend on the property and the local water purveyor, but annual testing is the most common interval. Your utility will typically notify you when yours is due.
What happens if my assembly fails the test?
It has to be repaired or replaced and then retested. Many failures are worn internal components, check discs, springs, seats, that can be rebuilt without replacing the whole assembly.
Why is water discharging from my backflow preventer?
On a reduced-pressure assembly, relief-port discharge indicates fouled or failed internal checks, or a pressure fluctuation on the supply. Either way it needs testing rather than ignoring.
Do I need backflow protection for my irrigation system?
Almost always. An irrigation connection is a textbook cross-connection, sprinkler heads sit in soil and standing water, which is why purveyors require protection on them.
